SHILLONG, Jan 28: The NPP on Saturday said the election manifesto of the TMC and its ten pledges for Meghalaya are nothing but “inflated and empty promises”.
NPP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh said the ten pledges are overly optimistic and they lack specific details on how the party plans to achieve the ambitious goals.
Pointing out that the manifesto did not provide any information on how the TMC plans to fund these initiatives or what specific policies it will adopt and measures it will take, Lyngdoh said the promises are simply a set of ambitious plans which do not provide details or a realistic route for accomplishment.
“Let me tell you, Meghalaya will not fall prey to these exaggerated and empty commitments,” she said.
The TMC in its manifesto made a slew of promises, including the creation of 3 lakh jobs, monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 to every unemployed youth, 1 lakh laptops to all higher secondary and college-going students, annual financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to each farmer, a sports university etc.
The TMC is dreaming big in Meghalaya. The party had made inroads into the state after 12 Congress MLAs, led by former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, had “merged” themselves with the Mamata Banerjee-led party in November 2021. However, four deserted the party in the recent past.
