Guwahati, Jan 30: Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N.F. Railway rescued four minors from different stations during separate drives and checks conducted in Guwahati and Lumding recently.
The rescued minors, comprising two girls and two boys, were later handed over to respective NGOs/parents for their safe custody and further course of action.
“On the incident day (January 27, 2023), RPF of Kamakhya jointly with Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) team of Guwahati conducted a routine check at Kamakhya railway station. During the check, they rescued one runaway minor girl. Later the rescued minor was handed over to Railway Childline, Guwahati for safe custody and further course of action,” an official statement issued here on Monday said.
“In another incident, RPF of Lumding conducted a routine check at Lumding railway station. During the check, they rescued one run-away minor girl and two run-away minor boys. After identification the matter was informed to their parents by RPF. Later, the rescued minors were handed over to their respective parents after proper verification,” the statement said.
Besides, during the period from April to December, 2022, RPF of N.F. Railway rescued 686 minor children and 39 women and arrested10 human traffickers.
The rescued children/women were handed over to respective Childline/NGOs, parents and Government Railway Police.
Notably, an intensive awareness drive, “Meri Saheli,” was launched by RPF of NF Railway back in 2020, and functioning round the clock to make aware women/child passengers about the safety/security and use of helpline number 139 in case of any exigency.
