SHILLONG, Feb 1: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) leader, Adelbert Nongrum said his party will seek a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities and scams under the NPP-led MDA government if voted to power after the ensuing Assembly polls.
On Wednesday, he told The Shillong Times that his party would ensure actions are taken against the people involved in the scams according to the provisions of the law.
“We are serious and it is not just election propaganda. But we need the mandate of the people to be able to pursue a probe into the irregularities,” Nongrum, a former MLA said.
He said the people of the state deserve to know the truth about the people involved in the rice scam, irregularities in the MeECL such as the Saubhagya scheme or smart meters besides illegal mining and transportation of coal.
The VPP leader also said there is a need for proper auditing of  Covid-19 expenditures.
“There are question marks over the manner in which the government utilised the funds for Covid-19,” he said, asserting the VPP’s commitment to corruption-free governance in the state.
Nongrum further said the party would end favouritism in the appointment to the vacant posts in various departments.
He said the VPP would take steps to bring about transparency in the recruitment process of both the Meghalaya Public Service Commission and the district selection committees.
“We want no political interference or nepotism in the selection process for jobs,” he added.
