Shillong, Feb 8:  The district election machinery in West Garo Hills has taken steps to prevent poll-related violent incidents in the district following the report received from the District Election Officer (DEO) regarding last night’s violent incident of clashes between workers of two political parties under Phulbari Assembly Constituency.

The SDO and SDPO along with BDOs have been deployed and stationed in the area while CAPF personnel are undertaking intensive area domination. All concerned trouble mongers will be arrested under Section 107 of the CrPC.

Three companies of CAPF have been deployed in the entire plain belt area of West Garo Hills district.

As per report of the District Election Officer (DEO) of West Garo Hills (WGH) scuffle occurred between workers of the TMC and NPP at around 10.45 pm last night at Charbatapara village under 46 – Phulbari Assembly Constituency.

As per information, S. G. E. Mominin (ex-MLA and TMC candidate), Moni Mondol (TMC), Bhuttu (TMC), and Habibur Zaman (MDC/NPP) was present at the spot.

Accordingly, on receipt of information, team from Phulbari Police Station rushed to the place of violence and controlled the situation.

Nine persons were sent for medical examination at Phulbari CHC but all were discharged after examination.

One person, Nojrul Hoque, has been advised to contact a better healthcare facility as the injury was near his eye.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been submitted by one Nozim Hussain, S/o (L) Abdul S K, R/o Charbatapara,  alleging that one procession led by Habibur Zaman (NPP) stopped near his house and pelted stones at his house due to which 4 persons were injured.

As per the report of the DEO, the reason for clash was that while Habibur Zaman and his supporters were passing through the village, few TMC supporters hit their Scorpio vehicle which led to the scuffle. The situation is under control.

Some videos of the incident are circulating in social media and investigation is being done into those. Further necessary action shall be taken as per law.
