Rajabala, Feb 11: Confident of a positive result to his campaign to win the Rajabala seat for the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Dr Mizanur Rehman Kazi stressed that the last 5 years had been tremendously difficult for the people as no development has been undertaken for the sake of the people.
In 2018, Dr Azad Zaman, won the seat on a Congress ticket before his demise through a heart attack. The by-election to the seat saw NPP’s Abdus Saleh emerge victorious defeating Zaman’s wife.
This time a 3 way battle for the seat is likely to emerge with both Saleh and UDP’s Ashahel D Shira looking strong contenders along with Dr Kazi. The winner could pull through with the barest of margins as each one tries to outdo the other. A meeting held yesterday at New Bhaitbari saw a huge crowd come to listen to Dr Kazi who took the dais along with Phulbari TMC contestant, SG Esmatur Mominin.
“I have covered almost 90% of the area, including the plain and the hills. We are rigorously campaigning and the positive response I have been getting from all my visits, we believe we will get the people’s mandate this time,” felt Dr Kazi, adding that
He added that there was anger on the ground against the NPP candidate, Saleh as he had made promises during his by-election campaign but had failed to deliver them to the people.
“We are lagging behind in every way, be it health, road infrastructure, employment. There has been nothing done to improve the situation by the current MLA though he was in the ruling government since his election. Just to win the election he made promises but he didn’t keep them so people are angry and have deserted him,” asserted the TMC leader.
Sharing his vision for the constituency, Kazi stated that the first thing that was needed was to work on the employment of the youth of the area.
“We have lots of educated unemployed and we will look to provide them some sort of employment, be it through government jobs or self employment. Further the health sector also needs a huge boost in my constituency. Further farmers’ needs have to be looked at as we are a farmer based area,” he added.
On the chances of his party in the entire state, Kazi asserted that inputs have pointed to the TMC being the largest party in the state with their aim for Garo Hills being anywhere between 16-18 seats.
