SHILLONG, Feb 11: The Congress party has made it clear that in the event of a hung Assembly, it would prefer to sit in the opposition rather than compromise on its ideologies and colluding with other parties just for the sake of power.
“We would prefer to sit in the opposition and we will not compromise with our ideology. We are fighting to get majority on our own. The Congress is fighting on ideological ground. We cannot make short term compromises since we have made too many short term compromises (in the past). This has affected ideology and it has affected our party, our organisation and growth,” AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh said here on Saturday.
He however added that the final decision on the party’s role in Meghalaya would depend on the outcome of the polls.
