TURA, Feb 14: A woman from Adokgre in North Garo Hills on Tuesday demanded that land given as donation to the MePDCL for construction of a sub-station in the area be given back to her, after the corporation allegedly failed to meet the terms and conditions of the agreement signed between them.
A complaint in this regard was also submitted a day earlier to the Executive Engineer of the MePDCL in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills.
In the complaint, the woman, identified as Chengsera R Marak of Adokgre Reking, informed that in 2018 between June and July, she was approached by the officials of the MePDCL accompanied by Kharkutta MLA Rupert M Momin with a request to donate two bighas of land for construction of the corporation sub-station in return for jobs.
The complainant also informed an agreement was signed to officialise the terms and conditions, which said that two members of her family would be appointed to Grade III level posts.
The complainant claimed to have met the MLA and the officials of MePDCL repeatedly to get the issue resolved following which, she received an order from the Deputy Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Power Department in Shillong, which informed that she had been appointed as a casual peon (unskilled) initially for a period of 89 days. When the matter was raised once again with the MLA, she was allegedly chided and also informed that the MePDCL, on the basis of the agreement, had got the land mutated from the GHADC, and that she would not get the same back.
Alleging that she was cheated by both the MLA and the MePDCL officials, Marak demanded that either appointment be given to her family as per the agreement or the land be returned to her or the family be provided monetary compensation.
Marak also sought compensation for over 200 sal and other trees that were felled in her plot of land.
