SHILLONG, Feb 15: Independent candidate from North Shillong constituency Michael Kharsyntiew on Wednesday alleged inflow of cash and use of money power in the constituency.
“It is a known fact, an open secret that the inflow of cash, buying of votes or persuasion is very much there and I would like to ask the people to be aware as buying of votes will hamper development and administration in the constituency,” said Kharsyntiew.
“Where is the source of income of these people who are pouring money? Where is it coming from? We have never heard of them …I have never heard of such people before and we have never seen so much cash put in before,” he said.
Pointing out that most of his political opponents in the constituency are former bureaucrats, Kharsyntiew said, “What is the need for them to join politics when they were in the service? We have seen their records and the news items against them. I hope the people of the constituency will take the right decision.”
Asked if he has lodged any complaint against the use of money to influence electorates despite the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct, he said the officials in charge are already on the job.
