SHILLONG, Feb 16: Taking a dig at the VVP, UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh said he is perplexed by the existence of the VPP and unable to understand what the party stands for.
“Till now I am not able to make my analysis or understand what is the ideology of this newly floated party,” Lyngdoh said while speaking at an election rally to drum support to UDP candidate from Mawphlang, Matthew Beyondstar Kurbah, at Nongspung on Thursday.
Metbah also took potshots at other parties while raising questions on how the people could have faith in the PDF which was only formed in 2018. “I will not talk much about the Congress since it is the party which has ruled the state for the maximum number of years. We know the position of the NPP since everyone is deserting the party,” he said.
He went on to assert that it is time for the UDP to lead the state, while recalling that national parties have been at the helms of affairs for around five decades.
“I confidently say that it is only the UDP who can protect the interest of the indigenous population. People should not make a mistake to give their mandate (to other parties) since they will not able to do anything after February 27,” Lyngdoh said.
On the sidelines, sitting UDP MLA from Mawphlang, Eugeneson Lyngdoh, has slammed candidates of other parties for making false claims on the work and initiative of his late father SK Sunn.
“I think the electorates of Mawphlang should reject this kind of people since they can mislead them only to serve their vested interest,” Lyngdoh added.
