Shillong, Feb 18: The District Election Officer (DEO) of West Garo Hills (WGH) today dismissed the misinformation campaign on EVMs in the context of Meghalaya Assembly election, 2023 as ‘false and baseless’ stating that these EVMs are highly secure machines which are built, repaired and stored away in secured location.

The DEO pointed out that during the run up to the election, the DEO office had made wide demonstrations of EVMs in all constituencies and in marketplaces for people to experience the voting procedure.

“The microchip used in EVMs is a one-time programmable/masked chip, reprogrammed in a particular manner. There is, therefore, absolutely no chance of programming EVMs in a particular way to select any particular candidate or political party,” says the statement.
