SHILLONG, Feb 21: The Meghalaya United Christian Forum has condemned the rendition of a gospel song which was uploaded on social media terming it as ‘blasphemous’.
The video in which general secretary of the NPP’s Williamnagar unit, Georgeman Marak and his company can be seen singing the song in which the word ‘Jesus’ has been replaced by ‘NPP’.
“…it is an action insulting and displaying contempt for faith and affecting the sentiments of the Christian community. It is therefore very appalling to see their complete disregard to the spiritual and powerful song which has a powerful testimony of faith behind it,” the forum said.
It has beseeched candidates and supporters of different parties to refrain from dishonouring the Christian faith for “political mileage”.
An FIR was also registered against the NPP leader. The FIR was filed by UDP candidate from South Tura, John Leslee K Sangma with the officer in-charge of Tura Police Station on Monday.
In the uploaded video which has already gone viral, Georgeman Marak, along with five others is seen singing their version of the devotional song — ‘I have decided to follow Jesus’. However, the word ‘Jesus’ was replaced with the word NPP.
