Shillong, Feb 23: Acting on a tip-off troops of BSF seized three vehicles on Wednesday along with drivers loaded with 6440 Kgs of betel leaves worth Rupees 16 lakhs meant for smuggling to Bangladesh through International border of East-Khasi Hills district.

The vehicle was heading towards International border when intercepted by BSF near bordering village Wahkdait, East Khasi Hills.

Indian betel leaves are in high demand in Bangladesh which prompts smugglers to earn profit through illicit trade of these leaves. Arrested Indian nationals and seized item were handed over to Customs station at Pynursla for further action.
