6 die on the spot at truck hits Bolero on highway in Ri Bhoi district

Nongpoh, Feb 26:  Six persons died on the spot after the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a cement laden truck at Sumer in Ri Bhoi district on Sunday afternoon.

As per sources, the accident occurred at around 2:30 pm when the driver of the over-speeding cement laden truck bearing registration number WB 41G 7628, coming from Jowai towards Guwahati lost control and jumped the divider and directly hit the Bolero which was coming from the opposite lane. The Bolero was heading towards Shillong.

Witnesses informed that the Bolero after being hit by the truck flipped upside down several times and was finally ramped over on the guard wall resulting all six occupants of the Bolero which include three male and three female to succumb to their injuries on the spot.

Source also informed that all the six occupants of the Bolero which include three Nuns, a Priest, a Deacon and driver belong to a missionary school based in Assam.

It was informed that the driver and handyman of the truck were seriously injured in the incident and was shifted to a hospital in the city for treatment. Police are investigating into the accident.
