CEM presents Rs 46.27-crore vote on account for 3 months

SHILLONG, March 1: KHADC Chief Executive Member Titostarwell Chyne on Wednesday presented the vote on account of Rs 46.27 crore to defray various expenses for the period of three months (April 1 to June 30).
Speaking on the first day of the Council’s budget session, Chyne said that the vote on account will allow different departments to defray various charges which will come in the course of payment during the period ending June 30.
Out of the total Rs 46.27 crore budget allocation, the funds allocated to the various department include Rs 9.29 crore for General Administration Department, Rs 15.37 lakh for Law Department, Rs 2.11 crore for Revenue Budget & Finance Department, Rs 2.38 crore for Forest Administration Department, Rs 1.45 crore for Administration of Justice & Judicial Department, Rs 1.86 crore for Legislative Department, Rs 3.40 lakh for Education Department, Rs 27.53 crore for Civil Works & Development Department and Rs 1.42 crore for Enforcement Scheme for protection of Tribal Land & Interest.
The vote on account also aims at disbursing the salaries of members of the council, Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Leader of the Opposition, Executive Members (EMs), officers and staff of the different departments (executive, legislative and judicial).
KHADC CEM also tabled the Comptroller and Auditor General report pertaining to the years ending March 31, 2014, March 2015, March 2016 and March 2017 during the budget session
Reports of the executive committee in matters related to the election of Sirdar Wahlong, Wahlong Sirdarship and election of Syiem Mylliem Syiemship was also tabled during the first day.
The two-day budget session has been adjourned to March 6 where the vote on account will be passed.
Speaking to reporters later, Chyne said that they had to place the vote on account since they were not able to prepare the full budget.
“There was an audit in the council for the past few two months. There was request from the side of the officers to allow them to attend to the queries of the Auditors from AG office. It is for this reason that we are not able to present the full budget,” KHADC CEM said.
He further informed that they will table the full budget in the next session of the Council.
