BSF troops foil smuggling bid along int’l border

SHILLONG, March 3: Troops of BSF Meghalaya Frontier have confiscated 39 cattle heads from the bordering areas in East Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills, which were meant for smuggling to Bangladesh.
According to a statement, the BSF personnel, acting on a tip-off, intercepted one truck laden with 22 cattle heads near Umkiang area.
The trucker and his accomplices, however, managed to flee the scene.
It was after this, the seized cattle and vehicle were handed over to Umkiang police station for further action.
“BSF also seized 17 cattle from different border areas while being taken for smuggling to Bangladesh through forest areas,” the statement said.
