SHILLONG, March 4: The HYC has claimed that the electorates who belong to the hynniewtrep community have voted in favour of non-NPP-and-BJP parties to pave way for a Khasi Chief Minister in the state.
It flagged the disunity among the regional forces, while assuring to work towards improving the prevailing situation.
“I totally agree there is no unity among the regional forces. We will work towards uniting the regional forces in next five years. But our priority now is to have a Khasi CM leading a regional front government,” HYC general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem told the reporters on Saturday after a public meeting demanding that the two HSPDP MLAs — Methodius Dkhar and Shakliar Wajri —withdraw their support from NPP camp.
“Going by the number of seats, NPP got 18 seats in Garo Hills. But the mandate is clearly for the regional forces combined since they managed to win 19 seats from Khasi-Jaintia Hills region,” the HYC general secretary said.
On a statement of Prestone Tynsong, who is one of NPP’s top leaders, alleging the group is an agent of some political parties, the HYC general secretary abstained from giving comments.
“As a senior political leader, it has been witnessed there is lack of responsibility and seriousness. This can be witnessed in the comments which Tynsong made. He has insulted the whole Khasi community by saying that they manage to fool electorates every five years,” Synrem said.
“We are not a political wing of any party. We are pressure groups to raise issue concerning the people and state. Even now we are raising this issue looking at the interest of the state,” the HYC general secretary said.
According to him, the two HSPDP MLAs have betrayed the entire hynniewtrep community and the electorates of their respective constituencies.
“Both of them have been campaigning by using the name of the founder of the HSPDP and former party supremo, late Hopingstone Lyngdoh. But they have insulted the name of the former late party supremo and the people who have elected them by going against their wishes within few hours after being elected,” Synrem said.
The HYC took a swipe at Conrad Sangma, saying he always responded to queries on ILP and language recognition with “matter is still under examination”.
“We want a leader who will lead the 60 MLAs to Delhi to raise the pending demands with the Centre. We want a leader who will not hesitate to take the pressure groups to Delhi if the situation demands to pressurise the Centre to implement ILP and recognition of the Khasi language,” he said.
