Shillong, March 16: Frequent bomb blasts and deaths due to terror attacks has earned Pakistan a distinction of being South Asia’s most terror infested country. It has surpassed even Afghanistan as a country with the most terror attacks and deaths due to them.

The Global terrorist Index report released by the Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace states that the Islamic nation reported 643 deaths due to terror attacks last year which is a significant rise.

It further states that nearly 55 percent of the victims who died in terror attacks were military personnel. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) which is fighting for a separate country from Pakistan was responsible for 36 percent of terror related deaths in Pakistan.

The BLA has overtaken the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as the deadliest insurgent group in Pakistan. The BLA’s lethality rate has increased to its highest level with attacks killing 7.7 people per attack in 2022, as compared to 1.5 per attack in 2021.

The report further stated that terrorism remains primarily concentrated along Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan.
