Significant rise in Covid cases in country; 5 deaths reported

Shillong, March 16: The country is witnessing a significant rise in Covid cases as five deaths were reported from different parts in last 24 hours.

618 cases of Covid were reported along with five deaths from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand.

Four Australian tourists were also found to be Covid positive and were kept under observation at Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) hospital in Jaipur.

At present there are a total of 4197 active cases in the country while the all time death toll due to Covid has reached 5.50 lakh.

As per the Union Health Ministry there are 15 other districts in states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and J&K in which the positivity rate is hovering between 5 per cent and 10 per cent.

The Second wave of Covid had caused havoc in the country in 2021 after which health infrastructure along with oxygen capacity of hospitals was increased manifold.
