Shillong, March 17: A China-made Mugin-5 drone was shot down by the Ukrainian military in the eastern part of the country.

Reports stated that the drone, Mugin-5, manufactured by Mugin Limited, a Chinese company based in Xiamen, was shot down by AK-47s in the war-torn country last Sunday.

Mugin Limited, the company which manufactures the drone, confirmed that it was their airframe, calling the incident “deeply unfortunate.”

When it was shot down, the drone was carrying a bomb weighing 20 Kg which was later detonated. The incident is the latest example of a civilian drone being retrofitted and sweaponised since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a sign of the rapidly shifting patterns of warfare.

It has been learnt that the drone was flying at a low altitude due to which it came in the range of AK-47 rifles.

Mugin-5 is also called “Alibaba drones” because these are available on platforms like Alibaba and Taobao at a price of upto US$15,000.
