SHILLONG, March 19: The first budget session of the newly elected 11th Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will begin from Monday.
Governor, Phagu Chauhan will deliver his customary address on the first day of the session. The election of the new Deputy Speaker will be held after the Governor’s address.
NPP legislator from Resubelpara, Timothy D. Shira is all set to be elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker for a second consecutive term.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will reply to the Governor’s address on March 21. Sangma, who also holds the Finance portfolio, will present the full budget estimates for the fiscal year 2023-2024 on March 24.
VPP president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit on Sunday said the party will raise several issues which it had reflected in the party manifesto.
Some of the key issues to be raised by the VPP include the demand for ILP and review of the state reservation policy, Basaiawmoit said, adding that the VPP will raise the issues in the form of questions and motions during the seven-day Budget session.
