Shillong, March 23: The North East Cricket Development Committee will organise the 1st NECDC Interstate Friendship Tournament 2023 between the six member states that constitute the North East Zone of the BCCI.
The tournament will be held in Nagaland from March 29 to April 3.
The NECDC is a coordination body comprising Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Sikkim and Mizoram that was formed in 2016 to ensure unity and a concerted approach concerning the North East states in matters related to permanent membership, participation in the Ranji Trophy and other BCCI tournaments, game and infrastructure development, etc.
The format of the one day cricket tournament will see the six states divided into two groups of three, with a round robin stage followed by the semi-finals and final, NECDC Co-Convenor Naba Bhattacharjee informed on Thursday. All the matches will be streamed live on OTT platform (further details of that to be intimated), added Bhattacharjee.
The tournament will be a regular event and the NECDC is also planning to hold a senior women’s tournament as well as different age category competitions in the future.
Bhattacharjee, who is also the Convenor of the North East Zone Duleep Trophy selection committee, added that, besides ensuring additional matches among the six states, performance in such events will also be one of the criteria for selection of the zonal team, together with achievements in BCCI tournaments last season.
