SHILLONG, March 24: The High Court of Meghalaya has said that the state should do well to ensure that the timelines for the upcoming road projects are adhered to.
“It is also heartening to note that for the western Shillong bypass, which is to come in three packages, the work has been sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and is at the tender stage,” the Court said.
According to Court, several other road projects are due to be taken up in the State and “the State will do well to ensure that the timelines for the projects indicated in the last page of the written instructions dated March 22, 2023 to Counsel filed by the State, are adhered to.”
During the hearing of the PIL, it was submitted on behalf of the State that the matter pertaining to the sanction of the road between Jakopgre and Kakwa Duragre has not yet received the approval of the Empowered Sanctioning Committee (ESC) of the state government.
The relevant ESC was requested to take an early and favourable  decision in the matter upon considering the importance thereof and the Court directed that the relevant committee’s decision should be communicated to the petitioner within three weeks from date.
