SHILLONG, March 29: Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar informed that a total number of Rs 349 crore was sanctioned under the Smart City Project as on February this year, and Rs 280.98 crore has been spent as on the same period.
In a written statement in the Assembly, Dhar informed that the fund consists of Union government grant of Rs 294 crore and Rs 55 crore of state’s share.
“An amount of Rs 280.98 crore has been spent, as of end of February 2023,” he said.
The Urban Affairs minister said that the total amount of fund which has been spent include Rs 37 lakh in 2018-2019, Rs 2.86 crore in 2019-2020, Rs 17.28 crore in 2020-2021, Rs 88.09 crore in 2021-2022 and Rs 280.98 in 2023-2023.
Meanwhile, Dhar said that the total area acquired for New Shillong Township is 1722.32 acres.
Informing that there are 32 landowners, he said that the rate varies from Rs 3 to 285 per square feet.
The Urban Affairs Minister also said that the estimated quantity of solid waste generated in the Shillong Urban Agglomeration is 196 tonne per day.
According to him, the site identified for processing and disposal of the waste is at Riatkhwan Forest, Mawlai, which is commonly known as Marten. “The mechanism put in place by the Urban Affairs Department for the management of solid waste in Shillong is as per the statement placed on the table of the House. The process of identification is still going on,” Dhar said.
