SHILLONG, March 29: Within three months since Shillong Public Transport Service (SPTS) buses were barred from plying towards Khyndai Lad and Motphran, the East Khasi Hills District Administration has now revoked the restriction, allowing the SPTS buses to ply on the same routes.
In December last year, the SPTS buses were prohibited from plying on the aforesaid routes on a trial basis and were directed to divert at DC Office point in order to reduce the congestion in these two locations.
However, on Wednesday, it was seen that many buses and maxi cabs were plying on the route and a couple of buses were also seen stationed at Khyndai Lad.
When contacted, police informed that the restriction was lifted by the district administration some time back.
Later, sources in the EKH DC Office informed that there were multiple reasons for the district administration to revert to the earlier vehicular arrangement, with the livelihood of the bus drivers getting affected being a major factor.
It was also informed that not only multiple requests were made to reconsider the vehicular arrangement but the number of smaller vehicles on the routes was found to be further increasing.
