SHILLONG, March 29: A delegation of leaders from the Meghalaya government and Legislative Assembly visited the construction site of the new Assembly building in New Shillong Township.
After inspecting the building, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the workers are now engaged in clearing the rubble of the damages in order to resume construction works.
Earlier, a meeting of the High Powered Committee also took place to take stock of the construction and the status of the building.
The 70-tonne steel dome of the under-construction building had collapsed in May last year due to a design flaw and IIT-Guwahati had been tasked with approving the new design.
The contract for the project has been given to a firm based in Uttar Pradesh and the project has already seen multiple delays.
Assembly sessions are now being held in an auditorium of the Arts and Culture department at Rilbong.
