Over 10,000 students to take part in USTM outreach programme
GUWAHATI, March 30: Over 10,000 students from about 300 colleges across the Northeast will take part in the 7th North East Graduate Congress (NEGC), a flagship programme of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), which will commence from April 7 to 9, 2023. NEGC is an outreach programme of USTM aimed at providing a platform for the talents from the nook and corner of the region and guiding them for a bright future. Registration for students coming from far away colleges is scheduled to begin from the evening of April 7. Various programmes and competitions of NEGC-2023 will begin from the morning of April 8 and conclude by the morning of April 9. The event is organised to benefit the youths of the region by helping them set their vision so that they can shoulder responsibilities and contribute to nation-building. It aims at inculcating the spirit of competitiveness, regional integrity, social harmony and brotherhood among the youths. The event will be graced by a galaxy of prominent personalities ranging from youth icons, intellectuals, academia, cultural and sports icons, politicians and motivational speakers. Special sessions will be held such as a panel discussion on the “Role of Youths Towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat”, apart from sessions on “Youth and Entrepreneurship”, “Personality development and soft skills” and competitive examinations where experts in respective fields will address the youths. Various co-curricular activities will also be organised during the event.
Health camp organised in Umsning
SHILLONG, March 30: The PEWS Group of Institutions on Thursday organised a free health camp in Lumnonrim Dewlieh village in Umsning with the assistance from village headman Roger Kharkrang. According to a statement, the health check-ups were carried out by Dr NN Sharma and Dr PC Deka along with the students and faculties of paramedical, nursing and physiotherapy. As part of the health camp, general health check-up, vision screening, cataract screening, blood pressure, diabetes, blood group check-up and physiotherapy assessment were conducted The village locals were also provided free medicines during the health camp, which was attended by over 100 people. “Not only check-up of the patients, the camp was also organised to create awareness amongst the students and parents about the importance of education in the medical sector,” the statement said.
Asian leopard cat rescued
TURA, March 30: An Asian leopard cat that had strayed into human habitation was rescued late Wednesday evening by forest officials of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Phulbari Range, under West Garo Hills. According to the GHADC officials, a report was received on Wednesday from Timbogre village near New Bhaitbari about the presence of a clouded leopard in the village. Upon seeing the animal, the scared family immediately informed the GHADC forest officials, fearing that the mother of the cat could come for the baby. After receiving the information, a forest team immediately rushed to the spot to take custody of the leopard cat and were able to bring it back to its office. On Thursday morning, GHADC officials informed the Wildlife department about the recovery of the Asian leopard cat before it was handed over to them for better care and subsequent return to its habitation.
