Shillong, April 3: McDonald’s, one of the biggest fast-food companies in the world, will temporarily close all of its US offices this week as it gets ready to inform its corporate employees of a new round of layoffs, reports have suggested.
This week, the company informed its US workers via email that they may now work remotely from Monday to Wednesday. According to the article, McDonald’s made the choice so that it could virtually inform people of the layoffs. The number of employees who will be let go is unknown.
McDonald’s reportedly stated in the email that during the week of April 3, the company will convey significant decisions pertaining to responsibilities and staffing levels across the business.
The in-person meetings planned for this week have also been requested by the staff to be cancelled.
As part of an updated business plan, the fast-food giant said in January that it will review the corporate employment levels. This evaluation could result in layoffs in some sectors and expansion in others.
By Wednesday, it is anticipated that the layoffs would be publicised.
As businesses attempt to combat a worldwide economic recession and rising inflation, job cutbacks are increasing. Recently, the activities of several tech behemoths, like Google, Amazon, and Facebook, have been severely reduced.
The widespread layoffs in US tech firms have particularly hurt those from India. Several workers with temporary visas who were employed in the US are now jobless and have a very short window of opportunity to locate new employment.
