SHILLONG, April 13: As Covid-19 cases are surging in India, the Meghalaya government has asked for the vaccines from the Centre.
It has also urged the Centre to fast-track the construction of different projects under Covid funding.
At a meeting held recently, the Health Ministry explained the Covid situation to all states. A mock drill was held in Meghalaya to acquaint all concerned with the worst-case scenario. During the meeting, it was made clear that the states will have to attend to Covid situation themselves.
Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh told The Shillong Times on Thursday the state government is upscaling CHCs and PHCs with the COVID funds received last year. She said village health empowerment committees have also been constituted.
Under NHM funding for Covid, the government has increased manpower by engaging more doctors and nurses. It is also ensuring that health volunteers, such as ASHA workers, are paid well.
Lyngdoh advised people to follow the Covid protocols, including wearing masks, stating that such practices would help contain the situation.
The state government will hold a meeting on Monday to review the Covid situation. It appealed to people, who are returning from outside the state, to go for a Covid test.
India on Thursday recorded 10,158 new cases, 30% more than that of Wednesday. The active cases in the country have now gone up to 44,998, according to data shared by the Health Ministry.
