Space technology helps govt take decision on socio-economic sector: Conrad

Shillong, April 17: Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma has said that space technology has played a huge role when it comes to the overall social and economic decision-making of the State Government.

While speaking during the inaugural session of the precursor event of the 4th edition of the Space Economy Leaders Meeting (SELM) under GS Presidency of India held at Courtyard Marriot Hotel here on Monday, Sangma said that the state government in collaboration with NESAC has been able to use space technology to identify and prepared policies to take stock of the flood condition in a more effective and better manner.

According to him, space technology has already helped in the issue of flood control to handle in a scientific manner.

Chief Minister also said that space technology has helped the government to identify all the areas under forest covers and how to deal with the problem of climate change.

He further informed that space technology has been useful when it comes to the protection of the catchment areas and all the aspects of biodiversity.

Sangma further said that the state government has tried its best to use available technologies to ensure that it is able to give the best services to our people.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister said that this meeting of the SELM is being held at the same time when India is making numerous triumphs in moving forward in space technology adding that it is also the time when the G20 nations are making a massive investment into space programs.

He further stated that he is sure that the name of Shillong will echo in the future when all these foundations and policies which have started here in Shillong will be deliberated.

Stating that while the country is moving forward, the CM said that North East India like Meghalaya which has not seen economic growth has been able to become part of the economic growth and success of this great nation.

“We are now witnessing that North East has also moved forward,” CM added.
