SHILLONG, April 17: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday justified the demand for making Tura the winter capital of Meghalaya, insisting it is related to economic development.
The Garo Hills-based A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) had recently petitioned Sangma on the winter capital issue, “a long-cherished dream and the promise of the government” since the formation of the state.
“The winter capital demand has been there for a long time and I believe that all these issues are related to economic development,” the CM said, adding that there are many ways of getting development and people feel a winter capital can boost the economy of the region.
Asserting that the government has been clear in its development-oriented policies, he said the policies are to ensure that the government is able to push private sectors and entrepreneurship. “I am hopeful that these aspects will allow us to move towards the ultimate objective of development,” he added.
