Eminent personality Ashis Kumar passes away

SHILLONG, April 23: Ashis Kumar Chowdhuri (Babloo) passed away in Kolkata on Saturday. Born on May 2, 1939, Chowdhuri spent his impressionable years in Shillong.
An all-round sportsman, he participated in inter-district cricket tournaments and was an avid golfer. He was a highly respected tea professional who rose to the highest ranks in Assam Frontier Tea Company. Besides serving as the chairman of ABITA, he headed several reputed organisations.
A magnanimous personality, Chowdhuri left an indelible impression on those he interacted with. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
