SHILLONG, April 26: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday clarified that Rs 25 crore for renovation and improvement of Kiang Nangbah Stadium in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills, was not a donation from him.
“I have not donated this amount. We had received a proposal from the West Jaintia District Sports Association for improvement of this stadium. We will get the project sanctioned within this year,” Dhar said.
Stating that mini stadium deserves to be renovated, the deputy CM said that he had promised during the election campaign to take up the upgrade of the stadium.
“Now I am fulfilling what I have promised,” he added.
It may be mentioned that Dhar had made the announcement at the closing ceremony of the sports association’s golden jubilee celebration. He had also promised Rs 10 lakh for a football tournament to be organised by the association in memory of his late father Kesilroi Pala.
