SHILLONG, April 27: Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan on Thursday exhorted the youths to take up the mantle of leadership and excellence, be willing to sacrifice comfort and privileges, and help those who are less fortunate.
The Governor was addressing the Foundation Day celebration of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, which was organised to commemorate the 122nd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Shillong.
In his address as the chief guest, Chauhan praised Swami Vivekananda as a warrior saint who changed the destiny of India by inspiring the nation to rise against its enemies and embrace its unique identity.
Lauding Vivekananda’s teachings on man-making and character-building, the Governor also urged the youths to take up the mantle of leadership and excellence, eschew their comfort, and privileges so as to help those who are less fortunate.
He also commended the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre for its efforts in training about 2,100 students in computer and language skill, and expressed hope that the Mission will continue to make a positive impact on society.
Some of the highlights of the programme include paying of tributes to Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and legacy, release of magazine Ka Jingshai- The Light Vol. volume 4 issue 1, felicitation of former and incumbent teachers and the distribution of Vivekananda Award of Excellence, among others.
