Officials asked to take note of ePOS machine usage by fair price shops
SHILLONG, April 27: Minister In-charge Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department, Comingone Ymbon, on Thursday urged officials concerned to take note of the usage of ePOS machines by the fair price shop dealers so that the beneficiaries get their entitlement without fail. Speaking during a review meeting here, the minister also commended the department for piloting the online tracking of movement of foodgrains. It may be mentioned that the review meeting was held to assess various initiatives undertaken by the department such as One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC), Aadhaar seeding, electronic Point-of-Sale (e-POS) usage, capturing of all FPS GPS Coordinates for route optimisation and tracking of movement of food grains across Meghalaya, etc. The minister, during the meeting, also exhorted all stakeholders to work towards making the Public Distribution System robust and transparent. It is pertinent to note that the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, in partnership with United Nations World Food Programme, is also implementing various technology-driven initiatives.
Over 20 global varsities to take part in city exhibition tomorrow
SHILLONG, April 27: Over 20 universities from Australia, USA, Canada, UK, New Zealand, Singapore and Germany will take part in the Study Abroad Exhibition 2023, organised by Global Reach, on Saturday at Taj Vivanta, Shillong. According to a statement here, entry to the exhibition is free of cost. “The students and the parents will have a unique opportunity to have a one-on-one discussion with the senior university officials about the admission process, scholarship availability, and accommodation facilities, amongst others. The students will also be able to discuss part-time work options with them,” it said. During the exhibition, the candidates will also have a chance to meet the financial institutions to help them understand how to finance their studies as well as English language test providers and money remittance providers.
JH mid-day meal workers thank govt for increase in honorarium
JOWAI, April 27: A delegation of the All Jaiñtia Mid Day Meal Workers Union (Central Body), along with others, on Wednesday called on Education Minister Rakkam A Marak and expressed their gratitude for the enhancement of their honorarium from Rs 100 to Rs 1,100. With the increase, the total amount of honorarium received by the cook-cum-helper has been increased to Rs 2,000 per month, including the amount sponsored by the central government that is Rs 900 per month. The Union has, meanwhile, urged the state government to provide LPG connections to each and every school in the state for the effective implementation of the mid-day meal scheme. It also called for the enhancement of the rate of honorarium from the central government’s end.
Rotary Club confers awards
SHILLONG, April 27: The Rotary Club Shillong Heritage on Wednesday conferred the vocational awards on people from various walks of life during a programme here. According to a statement here, the programme was attended by Director of the Department of Education RM Kurbah. During the programme, the awardees were felicitated with a traditional Khasi stole, citation, planter with a potted plant and Rotary 4-Way Test. The recipients of the Awards included businessman, entrepreneur and a philanthropist, Shankarlal Goenka; Khasi folk singer and musician, (L) Skendrowell Syiemlieh; Field Coordinator of Childline, Shillong, NESFAS, Social Entrepreneur, I Synrem; and Social Entrepreneur working with women empowerment, Shidalin Marbaniang. “Each of the recipients or their representative shared the story of their life journey and thanked Rotary Club Shillong Heritage for taking the initiative for recognizing their service to society,” the statement said.
