National Law University outreach programme held in Tura

Tura, April 29:  The National Law University, Meghalaya Outreach programme was organized for Principals, Teachers and Students of Higher Secondary Schools of West Garo Hills District at District Auditorium here today.

Speaking during the outreach program, the Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya and Chancellor, National Law University, Justice Sanjib Banerjee said that the people of the State should take pride since the process for establishing the National Law University of Meghalaya has been able to materialized within a short span of 10 months and that the first curriculum will be rolled out from 10th July, 2023 and expressed his gratitude to Government of Meghalaya for their support and collaboration.  He further mentioned about the fee structure of the courses available and that grants would also be provided to the economically weaker sections of the society. He also informed the teachers and students to pass on the message to others and at the same time invited the students to apply for the course and pursue a legal profession.

Informing about the advancement of technology in the last few years, the Chief Justice said that the technology has changed the world which is also being used in the court by which virtual appearance in court and even live streaming of court proceedings are being made possible to the people especially during the pandemic times.

Mentioning the various responsibilities every person has when one becomes an adult in their life and career and sharing his personal experiences, he said that the best part of his life was during his school days adding that the childhood days are the days where one can spend carefree life.

The Chief Justice then acknowledged the presence of the present Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani by calling him the real hero for his achievement as B-Tech, M-Tech in Biotechnology from IIT Kharagpur after which he pursued his Masters in JNU, New Delhi and finally joined public service as IAS Officer.

During the program, the Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee distributed the Smart Kits or Community Computer Kits to different schools which is an initiative of Community Led Landscape Management Project (CLLMP) and was funded by the World Bank. A representative from CLLMP Project demonstrated the smart kits for the benefit of the teacher and students.

The Chief Justice had also interacted with the teaching fraternity and students and replied to their queries during the outreach program.

The Commissioner and Secretary, Education Department, Government of Meghalaya, Pravin Bakshi, Controller of Examinations, MBOSE, Tura, T R Laloo, Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Jagdish Chelani were among others who spoke during the program. Meanwhile, Secretary, Education Department, Government of Meghalaya and Executive Chairman, Meghalaya Board of School Education, Tura, Ambrose Marak, Registrar General, High Court of Meghalaya, E Kharumnuid, Joint Secretary, Law and Education Department, D Lyngdoh, DIG, Western Range, C V S Reddy, Heads of various departments, Principals, teachers and students were present during the program.

The program was organized by the Department of Education, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with National Law University of Meghalaya.
