SHILLONG, May 1: In a bid to accelerate the pace of saturation drive and mobilise all left-out eligible households into the self-help group (SHG) fold as well as reviving those groups who are inactive, a social mobilisation campaign ‘Sangathan Se Samriddhi’ was launched by Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS), the nodal agency under C&RD department for implementation of the National Rural Livelihood Mission, at the Main Conference Hall, Secretariat here on Monday.
The campaign also seeks to ensure all eligible women from the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAY-G) and MGNREGA scheme beneficiary households are brought into the SHG movement.
The programme was chaired by Principal Secretary, C&RD department, Sampath Kumar, co-chaired by Ch Ramakhrishna, CEO of MSRLS, and attended by other dignitaries from various line departments, NABARD, banks and NGOs.
Deputy Commissioners, project directors and Block Development Officers and MSRLS functionaries attended the programme virtually from their respective districts and blocks.
Speaking at the programme, Principal Secretary Sampath Kumar impressed upon the fact that the SHG movement is a strong mechanism, and they should leverage this to bring about socio-economic improvements in the rural community.
The campaign is a three-month long programme initiated from the April 18 to June 30 under the aegis of the Ministry of Rural Development.
Till date, 44,000 SHGs have been formed in Meghalaya covering 90% of the eligible rural households.
Through this campaign, the MSRLS intends to form an additional 4,889 SHGs by mobilising the left-out households which have been mapped across all the 12 districts.
