SHILLONG, May 2: The Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS), under the Department of Community & Rural Development (C&RD), on Tuesday launched a social mobilisation campaign, viz. Sangathan Se Samriddhi as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav 2.0, during a programme here.
According to a statement here, the three-month-long campaign “aims to accelerate the pace of saturation drive and mobilise all left out eligible households into the Self-Help Group (SHG) fold as well as reviving those groups who are defunct. Further, it also seeks to ensure all eligible women from the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAY-G) scheme beneficiary households are brought into the SHG Movement.”
The programme was chaired by Principal Secretary of C&RD department Sampath Kumar and was attended by people from various Line departments, banks and NGOs.
The programme was also virtually attended by the deputy commissioners and block development officers.
During the programme, the Principal Secretary impressed upon the fact that the SHG movement is a strong mechanism and they should leverage this to bring about socio-economic improvements in the rural community with the help of financial institutions.
