SHILLONG, May 4: The state government has made up its mind to relocate registered hawkers currently operating at Police Bazar stretch to government markets like MUDA, Polo shopping complex and Iewduh parking lot in order to decongest the area and turn it into a pedestrian zone.
Tourism Minister, Paul Lyngdoh on Thursday said that the government is concerned about registered hawkers and those who comply with the law will be suitably rehabilitated.
He also stated that the Police Bazar thoroughfare will be declared a pedestrian zone and people would be encouraged to walk and listen to good music by engaging young and talented singers to perform along the stretch.
The government plans to implement the idea within June.
