NONGPOH, May 4: The body of a 47-year-old man, who had drowned in Umkhen river on Tuesday, has been successfully retrieved by the Meghalaya Fire & Emergency Services, Search and Rescue Team (SRT).
According to sources, the victim, identified as Lusting Lamare and a resident of Umtlieh village, had gone to the Umkhen river for fishing on Tuesday. He, however, was caught in the strong current of the river.
The incident was reported to the Meghalaya Fire & Emergency Services, which immediately dispatched a team of SRT personnel to the location.
The team, however, took eight hours to reach the spot in view of bad road conditions and difficult terrains.
After reaching the location, the team, despite the strong river current, was able to retrieve the body within five minutes with the help of local residents.
Following the retrieval, the body was handed over to the Mawlasnai Police Outpost for necessary formalities before being handed over to the victim’s family for final rites.
