AMPATI, May 4: Chairman of District Health Society, South West Garo Hills, RP Marak, has urged the medical fraternity to toil towards bringing down the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in the district.
Marak, who is also the deputy commissioner of South West Garo Hills, on Thursday reviewed the status and performance of healthcare service in the district during a meeting with the District Grievance Redressal Committee and District Task Force at Ampati Circuit House.
The meeting was held in the presence of the DMHO Dr. Himangshu Barman; Medical Superintendent of Ampati Civil Hospital, Dr. Denisha Momin; SDMO Dr. S. Hajong; senior medical officials and nodal officers of all health programmes; and MOs in-charge of CHC, PHCs as well as sub-centres.
During the meeting, the DC stressed that all health functionaries have a huge responsibility to ensure the best delivery of health service.
Observing that South West Garo Hills was doing fairly well in terms of performance and status of immunisation and maternal and child health, institutional delivery, etc, he nevertheless urged the medical fraternity to work towards reducing the IMR and MMR in the district.
Marak also informed that he will soon visit all health facilities in the district to personally take stock of the requirements and challenges faced by the health workers.
During the meeting, presentations on the status of immunisation and MCH performance as well as status of MHIS in the district were given
Later, a review of various health programmes was also conducted among the MHOs and health staff of the district.
