Guv Chauhan inducted as IRCS prez

SHILLONG, May 8: Governor Phagu Chauhan has been inducted as the president of the Indian Red Cross Society, Meghalaya branch, at Raj Bhavan here on Monday.
World Red Cross Day is an annual celebration of the principles of Red Cross and the Red Cresent Movement. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Everything we do comes from the heart”.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Chauhan appreciated the efforts of the IRCS, which is always ready to assist in times of crisis.
Talking about the lack of proper infrastructure of the society’s maternity and child care centre, which is functioning from a 100-year-old office building located at Howell Road, Laban, he stressed on the urgent need to revamp the existing building of the IRCS with modernised tools, while seeking the intervention of the Health department.
The Governor also expressed solidarity with the mission to eradicate tuberculosis and leprosy.
In this regard, he donated Rs 90,000 through a cheque to the state TB Officer for the provision of nutritious food to 15 TB patients across the state for a period of six months.
Earlier, the Meghalaya Governor also planted tree saplings in the lawn of Raj Bhavan to mark the occasion.
