SHILLONG, May 15: Troops of Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier seized apparels (sarees) worth over Rs 20 lakh from the Indo-Bangla border area in East Khasi Hills on Monday.
According to a statement, the consignment was seized by troops of Barmanbari BOP when the miscreants were trying to cross over to Bangladesh. On being challenged by BSF, smugglers fled from the spot leaving behind their baggage, taking advantage of the thick vegetation, darkness and undulating terrain.
On searching the area, the BSF seized 15 bundles of sarees meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh. The seized items were handed over to customs authorities at Dangar for further action.
