SHILLONG, May 15: In what can be termed as good news for Shillong which is battling the menace of traffic congestion, the long-awaited Western Bypass project has been finally awarded to construction firms.
The status report of the project on the NHIDCL website states that construction of the 37-km two-lane Shillong Western Bypass with paved shoulder from Lad Umsaw to Baniun in Upper Shillong has been divided into three packages.
Package-I which is 12 km long has been awarded to Anusha Projects Pvt. Ltd (Hyderabad) — BKD Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd. (Odisha) (joint venture) at an awarded cost of Rs 185.49 crore. The project was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 620.3 crore.
Package-II which is 11.9 km has been awarded to Narendra Sharma – T.K. Engineering Consortium Pvt. Ltd. (Arunachal Pradesh) (joint venture) at an awarded cost of Rs 199.89 crore while the sanctioned cost is Rs 686.03 crore.
Package-III of the project which is 13 km has been awarded to BRN Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd (Jaipur) at an awarded cost of Rs 154 crore against the sanctioned cost of Rs 562 crore.
