SHILLONG, May 18: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Ministries of Chemicals and Fertilisers and New & Renewable Energy Bhagwanth Khuba on Thursday expressed his happiness at the implementation of the Centre-aided schemes in Meghalaya.
According to a statement here, the MoS on Thursday visited Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, to review the progress of the implementation of central government schemes in the state and meet the representatives of all the departments and district administration.
“Today, I reviewed the implementation of schemes of all the departments and district administration,” he said, adding that albeit he is satisfied with the implementation of the central schemes in Meghalaya, there still are some challenges that will have to be addressed with discussions.
Referring to the PM KUSUM (Rooftop Solar) Scheme, Khuba informed that more subsidies are available for the Northeastern states.
“The KUSUM rooftop scheme is all over India. We are providing more subsidies here to the NE states. All schemes pertaining to NE region are always given priority, more subsidies are provided to benefit the people. I urge the district administration to take more benefits from MNRE schemes,” he said in his address.
The MoS also held a meeting with the locals and headmen, during which the former was apprised of various challenges.
To this, Khuba assured that measures will be initiated to address their challenges.
Meanwhile, while addressing the media persons here, the MoS reiterated the Centre’s focus and priority in developing the Northeast on various sectors — infrastructure development like national highways, road connectivity in villages, good quality drinking water through taps, etc.
“Now, in a span of nine years, Northeast has emerged as equal to other developed states of the country,” he said.
The MoS, post his review meeting, also paid a visit to Mawkawah Anganwadi Centre, Sibsingh Memorial Govt School Nongpyndeng and Mawlieh Sub-Centre.
During his visits, he interacted with the beneficiaries of the central government schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and found that there has been proper implementation of the welfare schemes.
The MoS, meanwhile, exhorted the district officials to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries get the benefits of the central schemes.
