Union against Strela Thounaojam’s attendance at NEHU event
SHILLONG, May 18: The North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) has urged the organisers of Dazzle Vision Fashion Show to cancel Strela Thounaojam’s attendance at the event. In a letter, the NEHUSU said that it had received numerous complaints from various community leaders regarding the programme, which will be held at the Convocation Hall, NEHU Shillong, on Saturday. “The complaints have raised concerns about the attendance of Strela Thounaojam, who is set to be the show stopper for the event,” the letter said. Justifying its appeal, the NEHUSU continued, “This decision is in line with our commitment to maintaining peace and harmony on campus. Furthermore, we have received recent reports that Strela Thounaojam has been suspended from Twitter for posting hate speech and communal hatred; we believe it is best to avoid any potential conflicts that may arise from her attendance.”
