SHILLONG, May 27: After load-shedding woes, Shillongites must now brace for a three-day hiatus in the supply of water.
The government has announced that there will be no water supply from Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme in Shillong and its adjoining areas on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
“On account of stringing of 220 Kv DC Killing-Mawngap-New Shillong transmission line between tower location No. AP-4/0 to AP 5/0 at Mawphlang by M/s Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, the dedicated 33Kv sub station for Greater Shillong Water Supply water works at Mawphlang will be affected and the pumping operation from the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme shall be placed under suspension on May 29, 30 and 31,” the government said in a statement.
It added that efforts will be made to resume the supply of water by Thursday and reduce shutdown time to the extent possible.
