SHILLONG, June 3: Amidst the second phase of interstate boundary talks between Meghalaya and Assam, the State Congress has said that it does not want Meghalaya to lose out more areas to Assam.
“…we don’t want to lose out more land to Assam,” said CLP leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh.
The areas where dispute will be resolved under the second phase of border talks are Khanduli-Psiar, Block 1 and Block 2, Borduar, Langpih, Deshdemoreah and Nongwah-Mawtamur (Garbhanga).
Lyngdoh advised that any issue has to be dealt with a cool head and without being obstinate. According to him, if both sides are adamant about their stand, there will not be any understanding as it is a complex problem.
Earlier, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) secretary and Mawhati MLA, Charles Marngar, who is also a part of the Ri-Bhoi regional committee on interstate boundary, had said that there was plenty of resentment from all quarters after the MoU was signed by both Assam and Meghalaya governments following the first phase of talks.
“…it is important to resolve all the issues of the first phase first before treading into phase two of the boundary talks,” the MPCC secretary had earlier said.
