Shillong, June 5: United Democratic Party (UDP) legislator Paul Lyngdoh today observed that the Garos were far more mature and far more astute politically compared to the Khasi-Jaintia people.
Speaking to reporters here, the UDP legislator said that the leaders from this part of the State had made a lot of unnecessary noise on a lot of things but they (Garos) had shown more wisdom and maturity.
He further recalled that there were instances where noises were made about a Khasi Chief Minister in 2023 Assembly polls.
According to him, there was no such clamour in Garo Hills.
Lyngdoh said that what they (Garos) did was to put an end to all hopes of a Khasi Chief Minister by ensuring that out 24 seats in Garo Hills 18 seats went to the NPP.
He said that the Garos did not make any noise about it.
“We made all the noise and finally ended by lighting the spark in them that they would be more comfortable having a chief minister from our region and they therefore vehemently voted in favour of the NPP,” the UDP legislator added.
