SHILLONG, June 5: The KSU Laban Circle on Monday lodged a complaint to the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB), reminding the need to evict the non-tribals, who, the union said, are illegally rearing cow at Maxwelton Estate and at Lower Lumparing.
In its complaint, the KSU expressed its resentment over the failure of the authorities to take action against the non-tribals cattle rearers.
Alleging that the cattle rearers are not in possession of documents, the KSU said both these places fall under municipal area, which has disallowed rearing of any livestock.
The KSU said that cattle rearing is also contributing to the environment pollution since the waste is directly released to the drains and rivers.
Stating that the smell emanating from these places could pose serious health hazards to the people living nearby, the KSU warned that they will not hesitate to forcefully evict them if the SMB failed to do the same.
“We will not witness another Them Iew Mawlong since there are many illegally settling in these two places. We were assured by the SMB that they will soon issue the order to evict those who are illegally rearing cattle,” the KSU added.
