New Rotaract Club in city
SHILLONG, June 7: Rotary Club of Shillong has sponsored a new Rotaract Club, the Rotaract Club of IHM, and was presented with the Charter during a programme which was held at the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) premises at Mawdiangdiang here on Wednesday. The programme was attended by Manas Chaudhuri, Past District Governor of Rotary District 3240, as the chief guest, who, in his address, spoke about the ethos of the Rotaract. He also spoke about how being a member of Rotaract helps develop one’s leadership and professional skills. Others who were part of the programme include former IHM Director Dr Vijay Kumar, IHM Principal Dr Bala Kharsiing, President Rotary Club of Shillong Deeya Rathore, Secretary Suresh Prasad Singh, past president David Umdor. It may be mentioned that the new Board of the IHM was installed with a strength of a total of 10 members.
Meet for revamp of GH tourist spots
TURA, June 7: Hospitality stakeholders on Wednesday came together to discuss improvement of various tourist spots of Garo Hills region and make them much desired tourist destinations by planning a roadmap for the same. The meeting, which was held in Tura, was attended by West Garo Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner AVD Shira and Regional Director North East, Ministry of Tourism, Anil Oraw. Speaking during the meeting, Shira said though various schemes and programmes relating to tourism have been organised earlier, not much has been happening nowadays. Oraw, on the other hand, lamented that tourist destinations in Garo Hills are not featured much. Informing that this is his first visit to Tura, he enquired of the challenges and issues faced by the people as well as tourists, and shared his experiences of promoting and selling tourism. Stating that Garo Hills has many unique tourist destinations with scenic beauty of sal trees on the roadside and greenery, Oraw suggested that they should be advertised so as to attract tourists. During the meeting, various topics such as generic online marketing campaign of Northeast on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Google, etc., were also discussed during the meeting.
New health centre inaugurated
TURA, June 7: Mahendraganj MLA Sajay A Sangma on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed Ghegapara Urban Health and Wellness Centre under Zikzak Block in West Garo Hills. The inauguration took place in the presence of GHADC MDC Aktar Ali, Zikzak BDO and other officials and party leaders. Speaking during the inauguration, the MLA expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for facilitating the setting up of the centre in the area. He also thanked Zikzak BDO and others for their contributions towards the new health centre. The MLA also assured all possible help to ensure that the locals are able to avail full benefits from the health centre.
